Yoga Nidra Network. Everybody's treasure

Actualizado: 10 jun 2020

Yoga nidra is a great treasure, a potent meditative resource for healing, insight, and empowerment. It's a state of consciousness in which we are invited to re-encounter the essential truth of who we really are. Yoga nidra provides us with the opportunity to experience deep freedom. It welcomes us all home to ourselves.

There are a number of different approaches to yoga nidra currently in use around the world, and they can all be valuable, effective means to reconnect to this direct experience of truth and freedom.  We feel passionately that yoga nidra is one of the most vital forms of twenty-first century medicine and spiritual practice, and we are committed to sharing it as widely as possible. So we have created the Yoga Nidra Network to support everybody's access to this treasure.

Sharing the power

We are neither aligned nor bound by adherence to any single form, method or school. We resist all attempts to limit, possess or otherwise contain and reduce the potential of yoga nidra as a power for global healing and evolution.  We have been engaged with sustained and daily personal practice and sharing of yoga nidra since 1989 (Nirlipta) and 1997 (Uma). We have encountered a number of different approaches and know from experience that the essence of all these different forms is an equally luminous and profund encounter with truth and freedom.  We acknowledge and honour that certain forms and approaches suit certain people better at different times in their life, and for this reason we welcome the diversity that has arisen in the global development of yoga nidra. We also welcome the upsurge of research into the therapeutic applications of yoga nidra, and are working with colleagues in academia to compile a reference library all current research pertaining to the practice of yoga nidra - an ongoing project which is available on the resources page of this site.

Supporting diversity and informed choice

We warmly support and encourage teachers and practitioners from all different schools and traditions of yoga nidra worldwide. We do this by running a unique comparative yoga nidra teacher training course which gives teachers the opportunity to examine and experience a number of different approaches. This is important so that teachers can be fully aware of the relative benefits of different forms of yoga nidra in specific circumstances and for specific people. Since this course was launched in 2011, hundreds of teachers have been trained, from eleven countries. The work of these teachers is making yoga nidra more widely available in Italian, Danish, Swedish, Dutch, German, Spanish, Polish and French as well as in English.

Our events and workshops are open to everyone, irrespective of previous experience of yoga or yoga nidra. The intention of these workshops is to give everyone the opportunity to experience different approaches to yoga nidra - so some are short, some are long, and they are happening all over the UK and Europe. Everyone who attends a workshop gains free access to recordings of the practices that were shared at that particular event, site so that participants can use them to continue to practice at home.

We have also created Team Nidra, a collective of teachers from all traditions and lineages, working together to share yoga nidra with everyone everywhere. If you are sharing and teaching any form of yoga nidra, wherever you may be, we invite you to join us. Local classes and initiatives to spread the work of Team Nidra, including resources and recordings are supported by the Yoga Nidra Network, and are available to download from this site.

We invite you to experience yoga nidra: we encourage you to rest, relax and reconnect with the the truth of your heart. We sincerely hope that the Yoga Nidra Network helps you on your journey back home to yourself.

With great respect and love,

Uma Dinsmore-Tuli PhD
